Commanders' Jer'Zhan Newton: Undergoes pectoral surgery
Newton (pectoral) underwent surgery Wednesday and is expected to miss significant time, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Newton suffered the injury during last Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins. The defensive tackle tallied 38 tackles (21 solo), including 5.0 sacks, and one forced fumble over 17 regular-season games in 2025. It is unclear when Newton will be able to return to the field, but he will likely be out until at least late December.

Commanders' Rachaad White: Nursing hamstring injury
White has missed the last few days of practice with a hamstring injury, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
White's issue was previously unknown, but Garafolo adds the hamstring injury isn't considered serious or a long-term problem. The veteran running back is expected to fill the pass-down role in Washington's backfield alongside Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who is the favorite to handle early-down carries.

Commanders' Tim Settle: Could return to practice Thursday
Settle is testing his strained calf Wednesday to see if he can be cleared to return to practice Thursday, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.
Settle has been sidelined for about a week due to the calf issue, but it seems like there's a chance he could get back into action soon. For now, whether he'll be available for Saturday's preseason contest at Detroit is still up in the air.

Commanders' Jordan Magee: Suffers shoulder injury
Magee suffered a shoulder injury during Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Magee is set to be held out of practice for a week, but the issue does not appear to be cause for long-term concern. With the linebacker set to miss Saturday's preseason contest with the Lions, Kain Medrano or Krys Barnes could see a large share of defensive reps.

Commanders' Jer'Zhan Newton: Suffers pectoral injury
Newton suffered a pectoral injury during last Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.
Newton has now missed consecutive sessions due to the issue. The defensive tackle's return timeline remains unclear, but it is seeming like a long-term problem. If Newton cannot return to the field soon, Shy Tuttle and Ricky Barber will likely see a greater share of opportunities in Saturday's preseason contest against the Lions.

Commanders' K'Lavon Chaisson: Suffers knee injury
Chaisson suffered a knee injury in last week's joint practice with the Dolphins, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.
Chaisson did not participate in Tuesday's practice due to the injury. With Jer'Zhan Newton (pec) and Odafe Oweh (calf) also sustaining injuries, the Commanders' defensive line looks like it has taken a huge step back just one week into the preseason. Chaisson's return timeline is unclear, and the team will likely look to add a depth pass rusher in free agency ahead of Saturday's preseason game against the Lions.

Commanders' Rachaad White: Missing practice with undisclosed injury
White isn't practicing Wednesday due to an unspecified injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn could provide more specifics after practice, but White's absence looks to be more than a simple veteran's rest day. After inking a one-year deal with Washington in the offseason, White is expected to work as the top change-of-pace option behind Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who will likely lead the ground attack.

Commanders' Maurice Hurst: Headed to Washington
The Commander signed Hurst on Tuesday.
Hurst spent the past three seasons in Cleveland but is now headed to Washington. The 31-year-old recorded 39 tackles (21 solo), including 2.0 sacks, and an interception across 23 games during his tenure with the Browns and will spend the remainder of the preseason competing for a depth spot on the Commanders' roster.

Commanders' K'Lavon Chaisson: Sits with injury
Chaisson (undisclosed) did not participate in Tuesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Chaisson is sitting out with an undisclosed issue. It is unclear when the starting strongside linebacker suffered the issue, as neither he nor the recently injured Odafe Oweh (undisclosed) participated in last Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins. With both primary outside linebackers down for an indeterminate amount of time, Joshua Josephs, Javontae Jean-Baptiste and Drake Jackson should see increased first-team reps.

Commanders' Odafe Oweh: Absent due to injury
Oweh (undisclosed) did not participate in Tuesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Oweh did not play in last Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, so it is unclear when the linebacker sustained his injury. A significant injury for the 27-year-old would be a serious issue for the Commanders, as the team just signed the weakside linebacker to a four-year $100 million deal in early March. With fellow edge rusher K'Lavon Chaisson (undisclosed) also sitting with an injury, Joshua Josephs, Javontae Jean-Baptiste and Drake Jackson are set to see more first-team reps for the immediate future.

Commanders' Jordan Magee: Misses Tuesday practice
Magee (undisclosed) did not participate in Tuesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Magee does not currently have a return timeline set. The Commanders signed an additional linebacker Tuesday morning, meaning Magee could be set to miss an extended period of time. If the 25-year-old must work his way back from a significant issue, Kain Medrano or Krys Barnes could see additional reps during Saturday's preseason showdown with the Lions.

Commanders' Jer'Zhan Newton: Absent from Tuesday's practice
Newton (undisclosed) did not participate in Tuesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Newton does not currently have a return timeline. The Commanders signed a defensive tackle to the roster Tuesday morning, meaning the 23-year-old's injury could be significant. The reserve option was likely set to play a significant share of snaps in Saturday's preseason contest with the Lions. If Newton cannot return to the field in time for the game, Shy Tuttle and Ricky Barber could potentially see more opportunities.

Commanders' Tre' McKitty: Inks with Commanders
McKitty signed with the Commanders on Tuesday.
The 2021 third-rounder is back with a team for the first time since being waived by the Texans in August 2025. McKitty has not played in a regular-season game since 2023, when he was a member of the Chargers.

Commanders' River Cracraft: Heads to injured reserve
Cracraft (undisclosed) was placed on the Reserve/Injured List by the Commanders on Tuesday.
Washington placed both Cracraft and Jerome Ford to IR on Tuesday amid a flurry of roster moves. Cracraft played in two games for the Commanders at the end of the 2025 season and will now likely miss the 2026 campaign.

Commanders' Jerome Ford: Lands on IR

The former Brown will miss the season due to an injury unless he is released with an injury settlement. Ford was brought in during free agency for backfield and kick return depth.

Commanders' Krys Barnes: Signing with Washington
Barnes is signing with the Commanders, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
The linebacker appeared in seven regular-season games for Carolina in 2025, making 23 tackles (six solo). Barnes has posted two 80-plus-tackle seasons in his career, although the most recent was in 2021. The former Panther, Cardinal and Packer has seen action on defense and special teams throughout his time in the NFL, and he could compete for snaps on both units with the Commanders.

Commanders' Craig Reynolds: Catches on with Washington
The Commanders signed Reynolds to a contract Monday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Reynolds was a free agent for the entire offseason, but he will get a look with the Commanders to give the team some backfield depth while Jeremy McNichols works through a quadriceps injury. Reynolds mostly served on special teams across seven regular-season games with the Lions in 2025 before being waived by the team in late November. He ended the season on the Patriots' practice-squad injured list due to an unspecified injury.

Commanders' Drew Stevens: Wins kicker competition in Washington
Stevens has claimed the Commanders' kicker job after the team cut Jake Moody on Monday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Stevens inked a contract with Washington as an undrafted free agent in May, joining a position group headlined by Moody. Both kickers netted one field goal and one extra point apiece in Friday's preseason win against the Dolphins, but with Moody out of the picture, Stevens is the only player at the position on the Commanders' roster. Pending an addition at kicker in advance of Week 1, Stevens is slated to work in concert with a Jayden Daniels-led offense.
