Devils' Paul Cotter: Facing possible suspension
Cotter will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday for an illegal check to the head of the Islanders' Adam Pelech (upper body) on Sunday.
Cotter received a match penalty in the second period of Sunday's 1-0 loss as a result of his wrongdoing. The 25-year-old has never been suspended in his four-year NHL career, which could help his case. New Jersey has two matchups remaining on its regular-season schedule, and if Cotter receives a suspension, it's unlikely to be for more than two games.

Devils' Dougie Hamilton: Warming up but won't play Sunday
Hamilton (lower body) will dress for warmups but won't play Sunday against the Islanders, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
It was reported in March that Hamilton would miss the remainder of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs, though it appears that his recovery is ahead of schedule. The 31-year-old blueliner had nine goals and 40 points in 63 games this year before the injury. While it's unlikely the Devils would rush him back in the regular season, Hamilton could be tracking towards an earlier return in the postseason.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Tending twine Sunday
Markstrom will protect the home net against the Islanders on Sunday, according to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Markstrom's four-game winning streak ended in Tuesday's 7-2 blowout loss to Boston. He has a 26-15-6 record with four shutouts, a 2.53 GAA and an .899 save percentage through 48 appearances this season. The Islanders sit 25th in the league with 2.77 goals per game in 2024-25.

Devils' Stefan Noesen: Sitting out Sunday
Noesen (rest) won't play against the Islanders on Sunday, per Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Noesen will skip Sunday's matchup for rest, meaning he will probably return Tuesday versus Boston or Wednesday versus Detroit. He will likely play in at least one more game before the beginning of the playoffs. Noesen has generated 21 goals, 40 points, 162 shots on net and 150 hits through 77 appearances this season.

Devils' Dennis Cholowski: Loses grasp on playing time
Cholowski was scratched for the fifth straight game in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Cholowski played in five of the first 10 games after he was traded from the Islanders. The 27-year-old defenseman has since slipped out of the lineup, with Seamus Casey stepping up to control the last spot on the blue line. Cholowski hasn't earned a point with the Devils, but he has 10 points, 28 shots on net, 32 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over 38 appearances.

Devils' Seamus Casey: Garners assist Friday
Casey logged an assist in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Casey has earned two assists over three contests since rejoining the NHL roster. The 21-year-old has jumped right into a third-pairing role over Simon Nemec and Dennis Cholowski. Casey hasn't looked out of place this season with seven points, 12 shots on net, nine hits and a plus-6 rating over 13 appearances. Dougie Hamilton (lower body) won't be ready for the first round of the playoffs, so Casey could get an extended look in postseason play.

Devils' Brett Pesce: Records assist in loss
Pesce logged an assist and four PIM in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Pesce picked up his second assist in the last four games. The 30-year-old defenseman was limited to just three points over the prior 15 contests. He's now at 16 points, 97 shots on net, 137 blocked shots, 27 PIM and a minus-3 rating over 70 appearances in his first year with the Devils. He is set to miss the 20-point mark for the second year in a row after reaching it in five of his first eight NHL seasons.

Devils' Dawson Mercer: Manages assist
Mercer notched an assist and two shots on goal in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Mercer has two helpers over his last three games. The 23-year-old continues to see time as the Devils' second-line center, a role he's filled since Jack Hughes' season ended due to a shoulder injury. Mercer is up to 33 points over 79 appearances, matching his output from 2023-24. He's added 136 shots on net, 58 blocked shots, 40 hits and a plus-3 rating. It's not growth for Mercer, but at least he didn't take another step back in 2024-25.

Devils' Cody Glass: Logs assist in loss
Glass notched an assist and two PIM in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
This was Glass's first point in three games back after missing four contests due to a lower-body injury. He got on the scoresheet against his former team -- the Penguins traded him to the Devils at the deadline. The 26-year-old has 22 points over 62 outings this season, including seven points in 11 contests with the Devils since the trade. He's settled into a third-line role for his new team.

Devils' Ondrej Palat: Tallies on deflection
Palat scored a goal on two shots and added two hits in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Palat tipped home a Cody Glass attempt for the Devils' second goal, though their offense stalled out after that play. With three points over his last seven contests, Palat is adding a bit of depth scoring while seeing middle-six usage. He's up to 15 goals, 13 assists, 94 shots on net, 124 hits, 56 blocked shots and a minus-5 rating over 75 outings this season, though he has moved around the lineup at times.

Devils' Erik Haula: Strikes early in loss
Haula scored a goal on two shots in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Haula has a goal and an assist over his last two games after going five contests without a point. The 34-year-old forward continues to occupy a top-six role, though his production is more in line with a depth forward. He's now at 10 goals, 19 points, 104 shots on net, 99 hits, 39 PIM and a minus-7 rating across 66 appearances.

Devils' Jake Allen: Loses to Penguins
Allen stopped 19 of 22 shots in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
The Devils took a quick 2-0 lead in the first period, but that was all the support Allen received. The Penguins were able to get two power-play goals against him, and he lost for the third time in his last four outings. The 34-year-old goalie slipped to 12-16-1 with a 2.61 GAA and a .908 save percentage over 30 appearances this season. Jacob Markstrom should be expected to get the nod Sunday versus the Islanders.

Devils' Jake Allen: In goal Friday
Allen will get the starting nod at home versus the Penguins on Friday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Allen will make his 30th appearance in the crease for the Devils this season, having gone 12-15-1 with a 2.59 GAA and four shutouts along the way. With another back-to-back to end the year, Allen figures to get at least one more start before the end of the regular season -- likely either Tuesday or Wednesday against the Bruins or Red Wings, respectively.

Devils' Erik Haula: Picks up helper Tuesday
Haula notched an assist in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Bruins.
Haula got on the scoresheet against one of his former teams, setting up a Timo Meier tally in the second period. This snapped a five-game drought for Haula, who has been in a second-line role in recent weeks. The 34-year-old has had a down year on offense with 18 points, 102 shots on net, 98 hits, 39 PIM and a minus-7 rating across 65 appearances after earning at least 35 points in each of the previous three campaigns.

Devils' Daniel Sprong: Records assist Tuesday
Sprong notched an assist, three shots on goal and five hits in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Bruins.
The helper was Sprong's first point as a Devil, to go with 14 shots on goal and 16 hits over eight contests. The 28-year-old has seen bottom-six minutes and a little power-play time on the second unit, though he's also been scratched six times since he was traded from Seattle. Between the Canucks, Kraken and Devils, Sprong has been limited to six points in 27 contests while adding 45 shots on net, 27 hits and an even plus-minus rating at the NHL level this season.

Devils' Jake Allen: Makes brief relief appearance
Allen saved both shots he faced in relief of Jacob Markstrom in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Bruins.
Markstrom fell flat in the third period, and after giving up three goals in a span of 5:52 in the final frame, head coach Sheldon Keefe made the switch in goal. This outing did little to change Allen's numbers for the season -- he's at a 2.59 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 29 outings. The Devils' playoff spot isn't secure just yet, but they need either a point earned or a point lost by each of the Rangers, Islanders and Blue Jackets to clinch. At that point, don't be surprised if Allen gets a start or two in the final week of the season to keep Markstrom fresh for the likely first-round playoff series against the Hurricanes.
