Top Bears News

  • Bears' Kevin Byard: Logs quiet tackle output Week 15

Byard totaled two tackles (both solo) in Sunday's 31-3 win over Cleveland.

Byard was part of a stifling Bears secondary that limited Shedeur Sanders to no touchdown tosses while picking off three passes, but the veteran safety posted a quiet stat line individually. His two tackles tied a season-low mark following a seven-game stretch during which he notched no fewer than five stops. Byard is still putting together an excellent campaign, as he leads the NFL with six interceptions.

  • Bears' Tremaine Edmunds: Limited in return to practice

Edmunds (groin) was a limited participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice.

Edmunds missed the Bears' last four games due to a groin injury, but he was designated to return from IR on Monday and has progressed enough in his recovery to participate in practice, albeit in a limited capacity during Tuesday's walkthrough. He would need to be activated from IR in order to be available for Saturday's NFC North tilt against the Packers. D'Marco Jackson has started in each of the Bears' last four games, but he would likely revert to a rotational role on defense and contributor on special teams once Edmunds is cleared to return.

  • Bears' Travis Homer: Limited to open Week 16 prep

Homer (ankle) was a limited participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice.

Homer picked up an ankle injury during the Bears' Week 14 loss to the Packers, which prevented him from playing in Sunday's win over the Browns. He'll have two more opportunities to increase his practice participation and give himself a chance to return for Saturday's NFC North tilt against Green Bay. When healthy, Homer has mostly contributed on special teams while providing backfield depth behind D'Andre Swift and rookie seventh-rounder Kyle Monangai.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: No longer under the weather

Bagent (illness) was a full participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice.

Bagent was unable to serve as Caleb Williams' backup quarterback during Sunday's win over the Browns due to an illness. By working in full Tuesday, Bagent is on track to be available against the Packers on Saturday, so Case Keenum will likely revert to the QB3 role.

  • Bears' Luther Burden: Absent from Tuesday's session

    Burden (ankle) was a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice.

Burden was one of two receivers the Bears estimated as non-participants Tuesday, with Rome Odunze (foot) also missing from the walk-through. While Odunze has been sidelined for the Bears' past two games, Burden has seen his playing time increase and has capitalized on his opportunities, stringing together a 10-151-0 receiving line on 13 targets between those contests. However, after tweaking his ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's 31-3 win over the Browns, Burden is now being viewed as day-to-day ahead of a critical matchup with the Packers in Week 16. Burden will still have two more chances to potentially fit in some practice activity this week before the Bears decide whether he carries a designation into Saturday's game.

  • Bears' Rome Odunze: Sits out first Week 16 practice

The Bears listed Odunze (foot) as a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice.

Despite being deemed active ahead of this past Sunday's 31-3 win over the Browns, Odunze ended up missing his second consecutive contest after he aggravated the stress fracture in his foot while warming up prior to the opening kickoff. Bears head coach Ben Johnson suggested Monday that the Bears could look to shut down Odunze for a period of time to give him the opportunity to fully move past the foot issue, but the wideout hasn't officially been ruled out from playing in this Saturday's matchup with the Packers. That being said, Odunze's lack of activity to begin Week 16 prep isn't an encouraging sign that he'll be ready to play versus Green Bay.

  • Bears' Cole Kmet: Limited to kick off Week 16 prep

Kmet was listed as a limited participant for Tuesday's walk-through practice due to ankle and knee injuries.

Kmet is tending to a pair of injuries after he played 48 of 66 offensive snaps and finished with two catches for 28 yards on four targets in Sunday's 31-3 win over the Browns. He'll have two more practices to prove his health in advance of this Saturday's game against the Packers, but the fact that he's being listed as limited rather than a non-participant on the Bears' initial Week 16 report suggests he's on track to play.

  • Bears' Tremaine Edmunds: Practice window opens

The Bears announced Monday that Edmunds (groin) has been designated for return from IR.

Edmunds has missed exactly four games due to his groin injury, and it appears he could be a candidate to return to the lineup as early as Saturday's divisional matchup against the Packers. Once fully cleared, Edmunds will figure to return to his integral every-down role on defense for Chicago. The Bears can activate him from IR at any point within his 21-day practice window.

  • Bears' Rome Odunze: All options on table

Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Monday that "all options are on the table" regarding the recovery of Odunze (foot), Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.

Johnson indicated that Chicago could consider shutting Odunze down for the time being in order for him to rest up in time for the playoffs, saying it may be necessary "to protect him from himself a little bit so he can help us down the road." Odunze had appeared primed to retake the field Week 15 against Cleveland, but he was made a late scratch after aggravating the stress fracture in his foot during pregame warmups. With Luther Burden (ankle) now considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's divisional matchup against the Packers, it's possible Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay could be tasked with expanded roles in the receiving game behind DJ Moore and tight ends Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet.

  • Bears' Luther Burden: Called day-to-day

Bears coach Ben Johnson said Monday that Burden (ankle) is day-to-day, Chris Kwiecinski of Fox 32 Chicago reports.

Burden was forced out of Chicago's win over the Browns on Sunday early due to an ankle injury, and it sounds like his availability for Week 16 won't be determined until after the Bears have had opportunities to evaluate the rookie wideout at practice. If Burden is unable to play Saturday versus the Packers, Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay would stand to handle expanded roles in the receiving game, especially with Rome Odunze (foot) looking uncertain.
